Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS) Program
The Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS) Program is part of the Central Okanagan Public Schools Welcome Centre. It is funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and is offered free of charge to eligible newcomer students and their families.
Our SWIS team cover all 45 Central Okanagan Public Schools,. Each SWIS has extensive experience working with children in school settings, and they speak a variety of languages. Since 2012, the SWIS Program has provided services to hundreds of newcomers, who are now successfully settled and proudly call themselves Canadians.
Our SWIS team works in schools across the district to help families adjust to school life and connect with the community. We currently have a team of Settlement Workers who together speak more than 15 languages, making it easier for families to feel supported and understood.
